Country Sees Continued Recovery in the Job Market

Once again U.S. job growth increased in September, and the unemployment rate dropped to 5.9 percent – the lowest level since July 2008. While this marks a turnaround in the job market, 9.3 million workers were still searching for jobs in September and 7.1 million were in part-time work because they were unable to find a full-time job.

Federal Agencies Clarify Rules Related to “Excepted Benefits”

The Department of Labor, Health and Human Services and Treasury released a final rule on excepted benefits under the healthcare reform law. The rule outlines perimeters EAPs must follow to be considered excepted benefits. It also clarified how to treat limited-scope vision, dental and long-term care benefits.

OSHA New Rules Become Effective Jan. 1, 2015

Starting Jan. 1, 2015, the number of workplace fatalities and serious injuries will significantly increase. Under the revised rule, employers will be required to notify OSHA of every work-related fatalities within eight hours, and work-related in-patient hospitalizations, amputations or loss of an eye within 24 hours. Previously, OSHA's regulations required an employer to report only work-related fatalities and in-patient hospitalizations of three or more employees. Read more at HR Executive Online.

Getting Ready for Generation Z

Organizations preparing for their future workforce are starting to think about how to integrate Generation Z, currently ages 16-20, into their culture. A new survey indicates that individuals in this generation have a strong entrepreneurial spirit, are less motivated by money, are less entitled and will be better prepared for jobs than their Generation Y counterparts.
