New pregnancy discrimination guidance released

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) released guidance in July on pregnancy discrimination. The guidance added provisions explaining when the Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA) and Americans with Disability Act (ADA) require reasonable accommodations for workers with pregnancy-related disabilities or work restrictions.

ACA employee mandate could be further delayed

Two court rulings in July have led many legal experts to speculate that the ACA employee mandate may be further delayed. The two courts disagreed on whether subsidies can be awarded under the ACA if an individual buys insurance from a state exchange, verses the federal exchange. Additionally, employers are waiting for the IRS to finalize employer reporting rules and forms for the Pay or Play mandate. If these two issues aren’t resolved by the fall, experts speculate that the mandate may be delayed. Read more on the Employee Benefits News website.

Video interviews: The next generation of recruiting

Many companies are saving time and money by conducting first round candidate interviews via video recordings. Recruiters send candidates a list of interview questions and have them record their responses remotely on camera and send the video in. While this technology may be a future reality for HR, recruiters must be strategic and careful as they venture into the video realm.
