In half a century, the home-furnishing company has expanded to operate stores and other facilities in 49 states and Canada and employs more than 20,000 associates. However, this success is even more compelling when you realize that for the vast majority of that time, the company managed its payroll and scheduling with a pell-mell combination of paper, pens and simple software services.

That all changed when the company recently decided to upgrade its workforce management. Sharon Leite, EVP of Stores, embarked on a quest to find the best, most intuitive and comprehensive solution on the market.

“Two goals drove our search,” Leite said. “Our old system told us that intelligent workforce management (WFM) could be leveraged as an offensive tool to drive sales by giving us an opportunity to be more scientific and proactive with scheduling, better aligning store associates to customer demand. We also knew that we could become more efficient with our labor and management budget."

Selecting Dayforce allowed Pier 1 Imports to achieve much better control of its core HR tasks including scheduling, payroll, time and attendance and task management. Pier 1 Imports used the workforce management software to improve its system for balancing part-time and full-time workers, ultimately resulting in a significant reduction of labor costs.

"The Dayforce solution has helped us manage that transition, which has allowed us to better align store staffing to customer needs,” Leite said. “In fact, we ended up deploying more associates on the whole, but with significant schedule and labor cost differences, which enabled simultaneous labor cost savings and improved customer service and sales results."
