Dissatisfaction With White News Anchor's Style Was Not Pretext For Racial Discrimination
The California Court of Appeal has upheld summary judgment in favor of a television network, on a claim of racial discrimination by a white local news anchor whose contract was not renewed and whose position was eventually filled by an African-American anchor with less experience. The court found that none of the anchor's evidence had probative value to show that his supervisor's disapproval of his "aloof, distant, unapproachable, and stiff" style was a mere pretext for racial discrimination.
