In 2010, the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles selected Ceridian's HR/Payroll Latitude and Ceridian's Dayforce Workforce Management to provide state-of-the art, flexible and comprehensive payroll, time and attendance, and scheduling solutions.

"We wanted to see if our HR processes could be streamlined and improved," said Ed Stapleton, executive vice president of HR and Risk Management. The YMCA's existing payroll, time and attendance, and scheduling solutions were functional but lacked robust, time-saving features such as the ability to automatically manage employee time sheets and scheduling as well as generating key HR metrics and analyses. The YMCA's 26 locations vary in size from approximately 75 to 450 employees. Time and attendance was managed remotely through kiosks, desktop computers, and, for approximately 500 employees, mail and data entry.

Program directors scheduled employees manually at their separate locations. Compliance with California's complicated labor laws and regulations was primarily addressed by branch managers, with no built-in regulatory compliance system.

After conducting a thorough analysis of leading payroll vendors, the YMCA chose Ceridian's HR/Payroll Latitude. In November 2010, decision- makers participated in a demo of Ceridian's Dayforce Workforce Management solution. "As soon as we saw it, we knew it was the way to go," explained Heather Livernois, senior vice president of Finance and the organization's controller.

Before the final decision was made, the YMCA invited other stakeholders to review the product. 
"We had a lot of people on those calls," recalled Stapleton. "Twenty-six to thirty people from all walks of the Y -- from operations to accounting, payroll, HR and IT -- and folks were really pleased with the product they saw."
