Taxpayers to receive economic stimulus letters in March

Taxpayers to receive economic stimulus letters in March
This week the IRS issued a notice to taxpayers informing them that they may be eligible for an economic stimulus check under the Economic Stimulus Act. The notice alerts taxpayers that they must file a tax return for 2007 in order to qualify, provides a timeline for when the payments will be sent, and describes how the IRS will calculate payment amounts.

The IRS also issued a news release stating that it will send a separate mailing to certain recipients of Social Security and Veterans benefits who may qualify for the stimulus payments but usually wouldn't file a tax return.

An article in this month's Ceridian Connection provides a detailed overview of the Economic Stimulus Act and instructions taxpayers must follow to receive their checks. Click here to access the article and links to the IRS notice, news release, and the IRS economic stimulus payments center.
