A day off of work and the kick-off of the fun, carefree days of summer are probably our strongest associations with the Memorial Day holiday. However, when "Decoration Day" was proclaimed over 141 years ago, the intent was to set aside a day to remember those who have died in our nation's service.

But Memorial Day can also be a special day to recognize and support our living military members. Service members looking for extra support can access Military OneSource, a U.S. Department of Defense program that uses Ceridian services and provides information and one-on-one support to all active duty, National Guard and Reserve personnel and their family members. These resources, available 24/7 via telephone and Web site, address the unique needs of the military community, such as deployment or reintegration support as well as the everyday issues we all face, including relationships, parenting, finances and health and well-being. With nearly 1.5 million active U.S. military personnel, all of us are touched by the sacrifices and contributions of our service members.
