The United States has declared a public health emergency after confirming multiple human cases of H1N1 swine flu in several states. The current H1N1 flu outbreak is no cause for panic. The H1N1 flu has caused far fewer deaths worldwide than the common flu has caused this year. However, experts are concerned because there is no vaccine for H1N1 flu and there is little natural immunity to the virus. Being aware of flu symptoms, taking precautions to protect your health and knowing what to do if you do get sick will help you be prepared in the event of an outbreak in your community.

Ceridian's LifeWorks staff of accredited consultants and researchers is closely monitoring the latest information about this outbreak and providing support materials to client companies. The login page features the article, "Protecting Yourself from the H1N1 Flu." This is updated regularly, along with a number of key articles related to swine flu, seasonal flu and pandemic illnesses.

Nurseline
Ceridian Nurseline services are now available for purchase on a temporary basis to address the emerging flu pandemic. These services provide access to registered nurses 24 hours a day/365 days a year for information, assessment, action planning and referrals related to questions about health and medical issues. Each nurse is licensed in all states where licensing is required. Nurses guide callers in making informed decisions about a multitude of heath conditions and how best to handle a medical concern.

Multinational EAP services
In collaboration with PPC Worldwide, Ceridian can offer on a temporary basis, for up to six months, both phone and in-person multinational EAP services. PPC has a strong professional presence in Mexico and is prepared to serve clients across the country. Additionally, in Mexico, PPC has established a call-in line to physicians to help answer questions individuals may have about H1N1 Swine Flu-related symptoms, concerns and precautions. This option affords consultation directly with physicians to answer questions and provide guidance, based on the latest knowledge of the epidemic potential.

Disaster Preparedness Services
To assist organizations in preparing for emergency situations, Ceridian has partnered with Professional Workplace Interaction, Inc. (PWI) to provide expert training and consulting services related to disaster planning.
