Beginning in 1990, Ceridian's predecessor company narrowed its focus to three principal businessesinformation services, defense electronics and computer products. As part of the settlement of an antitrust lawsuit against IBM, Control Data had acquired the Service Bureau Company (established in 1932), which became the forerunner of Ceridian's present-day employer services business. Mini Data, which has evolved into Powerpay.com (now HR/Payroll for Small Business), an Internet-based HR/payroll services for companies with 200 or fewer employees, was acquired by Control Data in 1991.
Since its formation in 1992, Ceridian has made other significant investments in technology and customer service to further its leadership in information services. Highlights include:

| 1998. Swapped Comdata's gaming services operations to First Data Corporation in exchange for their transportation services business, NTS, and cash. | |
| 1998. Purchased the LifeWorks portion of Boston-based Work/Family Directions, making Ceridian the leader in the Employee Advisory Program (EAP) market. | |
| 1999: Acquired a majority interest in Stored Value Systems (SVS), making Comdata the largest provider of stored value cards in the United States. Comdata acquired the remaining interest in SVS in March of 2000. | |
| 1999. Purchased ABR Information Services, Inc., now Ceridian's benefits services organization, the largest third-party benefits administration company in the United States. | |

| 2007: Ceridian is acquired by Thomas H. Lee Partners and Fidelity National Financial. Ceridian common stock ceased trading on the NYSE before commencement of trading on November 9, 2007 and is delisted from the NYSE. |
Over the last several years Ceridian's human resource solutions organization has concentrated on becoming a single-source provider of broad-based solutions covering the full range of human resource administration and management. Comdata has applied its expertise in moving money and information electronically to create new capabilities and profit opportunities for a growing number of non-transportation arenas, including payment distribution and retail financial transaction services.
