Community Involvement

Employee Volunteer Service

Ceridian employees donate thousands of hours of community service to nonprofit organizations, sometimes through company-sponsored events, but more often as individuals. In response to the 2004 volunteer survey, 800 employees reported volunteering over 122,000 hours of volunteer service annually with more than 600 organizations.  Ceridian also encourages employee volunteerism through annual Volunteer Recognition activities; the United Way campaign events; and the Community Action Field Program, which enables employees to direct grants of up to $500 to nonprofit organizations in which they are actively involved.

United Way

Ceridian actively supports the United Way due to its nationwide representation and because of the breadth of nonprofit organizations included in the United Way. Employees at Comdata, Ceridian's subsidiary in Brentwood, Tennessee, have an ongoing relationship with the College Grove Senior Enrichment Center as a result of teaming with the United Way for a Day of Caring project at the Center for many years in a row.

Employee Team Community Service and Fundraising Events

The Corporation also provides T-shirts and other materials for teams that participate in community service activities like painting houses, planting trees and raising money for nonprofit organizations. For many years, Ceridian employees across the country have formed teams with their coworkers, family and friends to participate in their community's March of Dimes. Since 1998 Team Ceridian has raised over $111,000 for the March of Dimes in WalkAmerica, one of that organization's biggest fund-raisers.

Business Units' Community Involvement

In the communities where they live and work, employees of Ceridian business units are involved in many nonprofit organizations. The following are samples of activities that are unique to each business.

Ceridian tax service employees in southern California have established an all-volunteer team called "Ceridian Cares" that provides visibility to issues and problems in the community and coordinates activities focused on making a positive impact. On an annual basis, the team chooses a company-sponsored volunteer activity for each quarter.

In Florida, Ceridian's Benefits Services has established a relationship with the Salvation Army's St. Petersburg command. Employees are encouraged to contribute money, goods and services, and the company provides information about volunteer opportunities. In December, Benefits Services set up one of the Salvation Army's Red Kettles outside the cafeteria for donations and invited employees to volunteer as Red Kettle bell-ringers in the community. Among other things, Benefits Services has donated a surplus van to the Salvation Army and $5,000 for Sallie House, an emergency shelter for children. Employees are also enthusiastic participants in the American Heart Association's Heart Walk. And, in cooperation with the Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg, Ceridian sponsors a teaching trunk with materials and films on loan to Florida schools K to 12 grades for teaching about the Holocaust, a required subject in Florida.

In Brentwood, Tennesee, Comdata supports the Red Cross with regular blood drives and by providing funds for them to teach CPR to its Associates. They also support the YWCA's annual Academy for Women of Achievement, as well as the March of Dimes and other national organizations.

Ceridian In the U.K. runs the PayBack Foundation, which focuses on 'giving back' to local communities by supporting individual children with physical or learning difficulties, or who excel at sport, music, etc. Fundraising for the PayBack Foundation continues throughout the year, supplemented with a sponsored employee challenge that boosts the Foundation's reserves. Since its creation, PayBack has funded over 111 deserving youngsters through grants totaling over $200,000 (U.S.).

School Partnerships

Many Ceridian employees in the United States and Canada have extended the concept of partnering with customers and suppliers to include partnerships with their local schools.

In St. Paul, Minnesota, for example, Ceridian partners with St. Paul Central, a large high school serving a diverse, urban community. The Central/Ceridian Partnership's primary purpose is to prepare young people for the world of work. Areas of focus are: job shadowing; internships; student and faculty scholarships; curriculum development; cultural exchange; and skills and training, which include workshops on career choice, job application skills, resume writing and stress management. The Partnership also supports a Basic Skills Center designed to help students improve their basic writing skills. One of the scholarships was created in memory of the late Linda Jadwin who was instrumental in the creation of the Central/Ceridian Partnership.
