Employee Volunteer Service
Ceridian employees donate thousands of hours of community service to nonprofit
organizations, sometimes through company-sponsored events, but more often as
individuals. Employee volunteerism is encouraged through annual
Volunteer Recognition activities; United Way campaign events; school partnerships; and the
Community Action Field Program, which enables employees to direct grants of up
to $500 to nonprofit organizations in which they are actively involved.
United Way
Ceridian actively supports the United Way due to its nationwide representation
and because of the breadth of nonprofit organizations included in the United
Way. In 2007, Ceridian employees and the Company donated more than $1.1 million to various agencies. Ceridian's Minneapolis campaign won the Rise to the Challenge award for outstanding campaign results. Employees at Comdata, Ceridian's subsidiary in Brentwood, Tennessee, have an ongoing relationship with the College Grove Senior Enrichment Center as a
result of teaming with the United Way for a Day of Caring project at the Center
for many years in a row.
Employee Team Community Service and Fundraising Events
The Corporation provides T-shirts and other materials for teams that participate in community service activities like painting houses, planting trees and raising money for nonprofit organizations. For many years, Ceridian employees across the country have formed teams with their coworkers, family and friends to participate in their community's March of Dimes. Since 1998 Team Ceridian has raised over $111,000 for the March of Dimes in WalkAmerica, one of that organization's biggest fund-raisers.Business Units' Community Involvement
In the communities where they live and work, employees of Ceridian business
units are involved in many nonprofit organizations. The following are samples of
activities that are unique to each business.
Ceridian tax service employees in southern California have established an
all-volunteer team called "Ceridian Cares" that provides visibility to issues
and problems in the community and coordinates activities focused on making a
positive impact. On an annual basis, the team chooses a company-sponsored
volunteer activity for each quarter.
In Florida, Ceridian's Benefits Services (CBS) associates continuously and tirelessly engage themselves in volunteering efforts to embrace the local community. In fact, over 35 percent of the employees at CBS' St. Petersburg, FL location have willingly given their time, money and skills to meet the needs of fellow community members. To illustrate, the volunteer team at CBS had recently decided to sponsor a local elementary school with a "Back to School Supply Drive." A variety of supplies were purchased by employees and donated to the school's faculty members. In addition, with the growing support of our U.S. troops overseas, service member care packages were sent to those currently serving in Iraq. Some of the agencies at which CBS associates have volunteered in the past include: Pet Pal Rescue, American Cancer Society's Relay for Life and Ronald McDonald House.
With over 2,000 employees, Ceridian's payroll organization has employees living
and working across the United States and giving to their local communities in
many ways. In addition to organizing local March of Dimes teams, Ceridian
payroll employees are involved in local activities associated with other
national organizations such as blood drives for the Red Cross in southern
California and Atlanta, and taking part in local "Walk for a Cure" events to
raise money and awareness for breast cancer research in St. Louis. Ceridian
payroll employees also serve their communities by teaching for a day through
Junior Achievement in St. Louis schools to serving on advisory boards with
organizations such as the AIDS Research Consortium of Atlanta and in many
similar community involvement endeavors.
In Brentwood, Tennessee, Comdata associates participate in and support a variety
of community and charity organizations.
Comdata is an active partner in its local business communities. Comdata sponsors
business events that help professionals connect and network with each other and
is involved with various business organizations, including the Chamber of
Commerce.
Charities Comdata supports include United Way, Our Kids, American Heart
Association, Second Harvest Food Bank, Pencil Foundation, First Steps, March of
Dimes, Alzheimer Association and American Diabetes.
Comdata associates also give back through participation in local races and
walks, on-site blood drives, an annual "Corporate Day of Caring" at a senior
citizen facility, book fairs that donate a percentage to charity, and a local
charity holiday party. Comdata is a proud annual sponsor of the YW Women of
Achievement.
In the Louisville area, Stored Value Solutions (SVS) participates in a variety of community involvement programs. Most recently the office has become a finalist for the We CARE Award, sponsored by a local bank. The We CARE Award is an annual award presented to employers in recognition of service to the community.
Some of the activities SVS associates have participated in include: Habitat for Humanity, Dare to Care Food Bank, Toy drive for Mud Creek Clinic, fund raisers for the Humane Society, United Way drives and team sponsorships for Breast Cancer Prevention Walk.
In Canada, Ceridian's main charity is the United Way. Every year the employees across Canada get involved in a comprehensive fund-raising campaign including personal donations and pledges, volunteerism, and internal and external fund-raising events. Since 2001, over $2 million has been donated to the United Way.
Ceridian Canada also runs a CSR program that involves allocating funds to each of its 11 branch offices across Canada. Employees are given guidelines and empowered to reach out to their local communities and decide on what charitable organizations will be supported by both monetary contributions and volunteer time. In 2007 over 150 charities benefited from Ceridian's support.
Ceridian in the U.K. runs the PayBack Foundation. The Ceridian PayBack
Foundation makes a real difference for disadvantaged children. Recognizing the
impact that offices like ours can have on neighborhoods where service providers,
high-tech companies and newer small businesses have replaced the traditional
industrial employers, Ceridian sought a way to 'pay back' into the local
community and in 1997 created the PayBack Foundation to help disadvantaged
children who live or go to school close to our offices.
PayBack aims to support individual children with disabilities, or institutions
that are focused on child development, as part of an ongoing and long-term
relationship.
Since its creation, PayBack has funded over 170 deserving youngsters through
grants totaling £190,000.
School Partnerships
In 2008, Ceridian's community involvement and giving focus has been on education. Many Ceridian employees in the United States and Canada have extended the
concept of partnering with customers and suppliers to include partnerships with
their local schools. Ceridian teams work with schools in several metropolitan areas to support the schools AVID programs, which help prepare students for college.
In St. Paul, Minnesota, for example, Ceridian partners with St. Paul Central, a
large high school serving a diverse, urban community. The Central/Ceridian
Partnership's primary purpose is to prepare young people for the world of work.
Areas of focus are: job shadowing; internships; student and faculty
scholarships; curriculum development; cultural exchange; and skills and
training, which include workshops on career choice, job application skills,
resume writing and stress management. Ceridian provides college scholarships to
AVID students from Central.
