St. Petersburg, FL, April 9, 2010 - Ceridian Corporation, a leading provider of managed
human resource,
employee benefits administration,
tax filing and
payroll outsourcing solutions, announced today that even as employers prepare for the new responsibilities imposed by health care reform, many are also looking beyond the new law for ways to control health care costs by helping employees take greater responsibility for their own health.
"Ultimately, employers don't feel they will bring health care costs under control until they help employees achieve a much greater level of personal responsibility for their own health," said Bart Valdez, executive vice president and general manager of Ceridian Benefits Services. "They don't feel the health care reform law adequately supports employers in doing this."
As a result, there's "a thirst for knowledge" in the marketplace for innovative ways to help control health costs, such as consumer-directed health care and employee wellness in the workplace, Valdez said.
Ceridian's findings were based on discussions held at their April 8, 2010, health care seminar titled "Health Care Reform Here and Now: The Business Challenge."
The live event, held in St. Petersburg, FL, was attended by representatives of area businesses from the surrounding Tampa Bay area, including employers, health care providers and insurance carriers. Ceridian Benefits Services, a division of Ceridian, is headquartered in St. Petersburg.
To help employers prepare for the myriad of issues and changes under recently passed health care reform legislation, Ceridian is providing a series of special events and communications focused on topics of vital interest to employers. Topics include compliance issues, health plan redesign and benefits strategies for greater health care cost savings.
Jim O'Connell, Ceridian's expert in legislative affairs and the keynote speaker for the event, said he believes the constraints employers now feel when providing health care to their employees will result in innovative new strategies.
"Even though health care reform has passed and is ushering in a new era of compliance responsibility, employers will still need to manage their health care costs," O'Connell said. "They will attempt to do this by redesigning their health plans."
Both Valdez and O'Connell said the most important thing employers can focus on right now is education. "Before we do anything else, we need to help our customers better understand their obligations related to the new health care reform law," Valdez said.
